After the 2005 World Championships in Australia, the International Freestyle Committee voted to to come under the International Canoe Federation and seek Olympic sports status. Some of the requirements are a World Championship every two years with a major event, preferably a World Cup, every other year. Olympics, here we come!
2006 will see freestyle kayaking’s first World Cup Circuit starting with the Ottawa near Beachburg, Ontario, the Black River in Watertown, New York and the Caney Fork in Rock Island, Tennessee. Event hosts, Wilderness Tours, Blackwater Developments and Jackson Kayak are working hard to make this a spectacular 3 weeks.
it will also be easy logistics with airport pickup in Ottawa and airport drop off in Atlanta plus affordable transportation between sites. local shuttles are also available so international paddlers can navigate the World Cup easier than Class 2 whitewater. THE WORLD CUP IS AN OPEN COMPETITION SO ANYONE CAN ENTER.
