The men’s semi finals started the day off late. There were some people who were looking a little under the weather after the Red Bull and Jack Daniel’s party at the Jackson Kayak Factory the night before. Thankfully the competition didn’t start till 2pm
42 men started the competition, only 15 were moved into semi finals and that was then cut down to 5. There were big moves from paddlers who took to this big hole at Rock Island, notably Ed Smith stepped up to the plate and was in third after semis.
The first finals to run were the junior division. Nick Troutman from Canada was a force to be recognized with. His consistent entry move and big air screws earned him top spot. He was followed closely by his teammate Dane Jackson. Alex Mohn was also throwing some big air blunts and his huge loops in the eddy were keeping the crowd entertained. If you are looking for a text book flatwater loop check out this kid next time you see him in an eddy near you. Alex aired himself into a third place spot with some stiff competition.
The C1 division was a great final to watch and Canadian Guillaume La Rue proved once again that he’s on top of his game. His ride would have done very well in the men’s K1 final. 1st place is where his efforts catapulted him with clean blunts that were consistent. Paddling partners Seth Chappel, 2nd and Joe Stumpfel 3rd once again were side by side in the standings proving that they are a duo to be reckoned with.
The women’s K1 finals were exciting, the ladies turned up the heat, check out the image gallery because these girls were hucking entry moves that put the guys to shame. Canada’s Ruth Gordon showed her clean style earning her a third place finish. Emily Jackson the 15 year old competing in the Sr. Women’s division had a plan and implemented to 2nd place. Australia’s Tanya Faux is asserted her dominance today in finals airing out a 1st place podium finish.
The men’s finals was electric. As Clay Wright had a first ride that had the entire crowd of 500 on their feet and cheering loudly. It was this huge ride that held him as the score to beat for the men’s finals. Slovakia’s Peter Csonka had a tremendous effort and his ultra smooth paddling style and ability to get air where some call it impossible rocked him to a 2nd place finish. Lastly Eric Jackson and good friend Stephen Wright tied for 3rd place with EJ narrowly edging him out after a tie breaker.

| NEWS | | The first ever World Cup is soon to be a reality!
One of the requirements for Olympic status is a World Championship (which we have every 2 years) and another major event (preferably a World Cup) held every year in between. Our sport now has a World Championship (May 2007 on the Ottawa) and a World Cup. Olympic status also requires participation of at least 50 countries. Do your part by encouraging your international paddling friends to put the Ottawa on their schedule.
