Garberator, The Lorne Rapid
Ottawa River, Ontario, Canada
Your host - Wilderness Tours & Ottawa Kayak School
The first event of the 2006 World Cup is on the famous Ottawa River in beautiful Beachburg, Ontario, Canada. This river is no stranger to hosting world class events. The World Championships were held at McCoy’s Chute in 1997 and are slated to be held in 2007 at the Lorne Rapid.
The birth of big wave surfing was right here on the Ottawa River. Back before manufacturers were ever thinking of using things like cross link plastic, molded thigh braces or even planning hulls, paddlers on the Ottawa were surfing fiber glass boats on waves with names like: The Greyhound Buseater, Big Kahuna and of course The Garberator.
Wilderness Tours resort in September 2006 has been chosen for the opening ceremonies for the first ever World Cup of Freestyle Kayaking. As Canada’s number one adventure resort this spectacle is not to be missed.
Stay tuned for updates as we draw closer to the 2006 World Cup Freestyle Kayaking Championships. More detailed information about the event site can be found at www.wildernesstours.com.
